Built in 1885 by a french architect for the Countess of Barral (1816-1891) preceptress of princesses Leopoldina and Isabel, daughters of brasi- lian Emperor Pedro II; The Countess of Barral only lived 4 years in this mansion as she followed the imperial family in its exile to Portugal starting in November 1889 where she died in January 1991
Its perfect location in the antique noble quarter of the imperial capital, not far away from the beaches, avoiding the inconveniences of the crowds, very near the city center and still located in a sea of green with a direct view on the sugarloaf
The original construction in the colonial style made of one block with simple and pure lines was reformed and modernized in 1927 by a new owner then enriched with gracefull balconies and colonnades in the most pure “art deco” style which makes it the only residence in Rio de Janeiro combining both styles with an extreme charm and elegance.
